Instead, Busch hopes to keep racing long enough to eventually share a Truck Series ride with his 10-year-old son, possibly as soon as the following season.
Busch recently turned 40, and he’s looking ahead to when his son turns 16 and can start racing on short tracks. The two-time champion has expressed his desire to join a team with his son to compete for an owner’s championship together.
“With the current state of racing—this NextGen car, chaotic final restarts, and all the nonsense—a season with three or four wins and a spot in the Championship 8 is considered solid,” Busch said. “Making it to the Final 4 is like the icing on the cake, and winning the title is like blowing out the candle.”
“If I have about four more years—say until I’m 44—I’d actually prefer to race for five more,” Busch said. “That would line up with Brexton’s timeline, and we’ll see what happens from there. If I can get over 70 wins, that would be ideal for me.”
