Sky News: Ukraine war latest: ‘Massive’ Russian attack hits Odesa; US ‘lowers demands’ minerals deal…
A significant Russian drone attack struck Odesa overnight, injuring three individuals and causing extensive damage to residential buildings and civilian infrastructure.
Regional governor Oleh Kiper confirmed the attack via Telegram, although the complete scale of the damage remains unclear. Images shared by Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov revealed nearly destroyed structures and emergency personnel working at the scenes.
Ukraine’s emergency services affirmed the injuries and damage, while Russia has not issued a statement on the incident .
In diplomatic developments, the United States has revised its estimate of the aid provided to Ukraine since Russia’s 2022 invasion, reducing the figure from $300 billion to approximately $100 billion.
President Donald Trump is reportedly pursuing a bilateral minerals agreement with Ukraine as part of efforts to facilitate peace talks with Russia and to recover some of the military aid previously extended to Ukraine, although this aid was not originally structured as a loan.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the initial discussions on the minerals deal as “positive,” with further meetings anticipated. The proposed agreement would require Ukraine to contribute all income derived from state and private enterprise exploitation of natural resources to a joint investment fund. However, it does not include any future security guarantees for Ukraine.
